GÖG-Colloquium | Violence and mental health problems: identification and treatment focused on healthcare settings

The work on violence and mental health problems includes the evaluation of a new domestic abuse and infant parenting programme for mothers and fathers which aims to end domestic abuse, overcome trauma and improve outcomes for infants from pregnancy to age two. In a previous project is the focus on interviewing abused and trafficked people about their healthcare needs and health service use to develop a conducting systematic review to investigate the relationship between domestic violence and mental disorders, and piloting an intervention of domestic violence advocacy within community mental health services. This presentation will outline the associations between violence and mental health problems, and describe methods of identifying and responding to these issues especially in healthcare settings.

Dr Kylee Trevillion is a lecturer at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN), King’s College London (UK).  She is a mixed-methods researcher who specialises in women’s mental health, conducting research on practice and policy responses to violence and abuse in the context of mental illness, and conducting research on perinatal mental health. Kylee has a PhD in psychiatry from the IoPPN and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
