Webinar | Enhancing biosimilar policies and practices in Europe - Insights from the AUGMENT Biosimilars project
* This Webinar takes place as part of the European Public Health Week 2026 *
Biological medicines account for an increasing share of pharmaceutical expenditure across Europe. Biosimilars provide clinically equivalent and more affordable alternatives, thereby improving patient access to biological therapies. Despite their potential, the uptake of biosimilars remains uneven, and several challenges continue to limit their wider adoption in many European countries.
This webinar will introduce the project “Capacity building to support the uptake of biosimilars in a multistakeholder approach” (the AUGMENT Biosimilars project). The session will present the project’s objectives, scope, and key activities. Commissioned by the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA), the project aims to foster the uptake of biosimilars through a comprehensive, multistakeholder approach.
Findings from a study conducted during the first year of the AUGMENT Biosimilars project will be shared, providing an overview of biosimilar policies and practices across 32 European countries. The webinar will address the following questions:
- Which policies and practices aimed at enhancing the uptake of biosimilars are currently implemented across 32 European countries?
- How can countries further strengthen biosimilar policies and practices to improve patient access to medicines?
- What are the current best practices in the implementation of biosimilar policies and practices?
The webinar will conclude with an outlook on the next steps of the AUGMENT Biosimilars project, followed by a Q&A session.
The webinar will take place online via Zoom on Friday, 8 May, from 13:00 to 14:30 CEST.
