In order to harmonize health information and integrate health information systems, the WHO Regional Office for Europe established the European Health Information Initiative, EHII. The EHII is a multi-partner network which supports the integration and sharing of existing knowledge, expertise and good practices. EHII membership has grown rapidly, and as of December 2017, it has 37 participants, mostly WHO Member States along with several non-state actors and charitable foundations, the European Commission and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

The EHII championed the development of a Regional Action Plan to strengthen the use of evidence for policy which was adopted by all 53 European Member States in 2016. Almost the entire WHO European Region is now involved in EHII through subregional and thematic health information networks such as a new network on measuring health literacy. Other work includes the development of qualitative evidence to supplement health statistics.
The presentation will outline the tremendous change that has occurred in Europe through the activities of the EHII in recent years and discuss its impact and future.
