Services to companies offered by VIZ

As a service for companies, the Vergiftungsinformationszentrale (VIZ) [VIZ Poisons Information Centre]  operated by Gesundheit Österreich GmbH (GÖG) [Austrian Public Health Institute] offers the inclusion of their Austrian 24-hour emergency number (+43 1 406 43 43) in safety data sheets (SDS) thus implementing REACH Regulation No. 1907/2006 and CLP-Regulation No. 1272/2008.

The main target audience of this service are manufacturers and distributers of products listed in Art. 25 (4) Chemikaliengesetz 1996, BGBl. I No. 53/1997 [Austrian Chemicals Act, ChemG], in the version ChemG Amendment 2011, BGBl. I No. 7/2012.

Mandate of VIZ according to Art. 54 (4) and (5) of ChemG 1996, BGBl. 1 No. 53/1997

The Vergiftungsinformationszentrale (VIZ) of Gesundheit Österreich GmbH is the primary emergency service point for all acute cases of poisoning and poisoning suspicions in Austria.

The VIZ maintains a database on safety data sheets (SDS), and has access to a large number of other toxicological and chemical databases from Austria and abroad, which constitute the basis for its 24-hours emergency service.

VIZ´s services to companies

According to Article 31 of the REACH Regulation in Section 1.4 of safety datasheets (SDS) a 24-hours daily available emergency telephone number has to be provided by manufacturers, importers or distributors of chemical substances/mixtures or articles for which a safety data sheet is required.

The VIZ Poisons Information Centre acts, according to the Guidance on the compilation of safety data sheets (Guideline 3.1, SDS-Section 1, Chapter 1.4), as the only competent third party provider of such a medical on-call service in Austria. By receiving and uploading the SDSs into VIZ's own database, quick identification of even rare substances and mixtures is guaranteed for rapid toxicological risk assessments.

Before making use of that service, suppliers have to contact and make a fee-for-service agreement with the VIZ Poisons Information Centre. The reimbursement fee depends on the number of products for which the Poisons Information Centre is named as an emergency contact point in the Safety Data Sheets (see Contractual terms). If you are interested in a cooperation with the VIZ Poisons Information Centre, please complete the agreement form. (Note: Please save the agreement form, if needed, on your computer first and then fill it out.)

After completion of an agreement the telephone number of VIZ´s emergency helpline +43 1 406 43 43 may be given in your safety data sheets (SDS) and other sources of information relating to your company´s products. Your company has thus fulfilled its obligation (Art. 25 (4) ChemG 1996, BGBl. I No. 53/1997).

Please note that the provision of the VIZ emergency telephone number on a safety data sheet without having concluded a corresponding agreement with us may result in increased risk to persons coming into contact with the product concerned.
