Services to companies offered by VIZ

The Vergiftungsinformationszentrale [VIZ Poisons Information Centre] of Gesundheit Österreich GmbH [Austrian National Public Health Institute] is the primary emergency service point for all acute cases of poisoning and poisoning suspicions in Austria. For telephone consultation, the VIZ has access to a large number of toxicological and chemical databases from Austria and abroad, and maintains the VIZ database on safety data sheets (SDS).

For manufacturers, importers or distributors of chemical substances/mixtures or articles for which a safety data sheet is required, there is an obligation to provide a 24-hours daily available emergency telephone number (German language) in the safety data sheet.

The VIZ offers the use of their Austrian 24-hour emergency number (German speaking) (+43 1 406 43 43) in these safety data sheets (SDS).

VIZ's services to companies

The VIZ Poisons Information Centre acts, according to the Guidance on the compilation of safety data sheets (Guideline Version 4.0, SDS-Section 1, Chapter 1.4), as the only competent third party provider of such a medical on-call service in Austria. By continuously receiving and uploading the SDSs into VIZ's own database, quick identification of even rare substances and mixtures is guaranteed for rapid toxicological risk assessments.

A fee-for-service agreement is possible, the amount of which depends on the number of SDSs (see Contractual terms). If you are interested in a cooperation with the VIZ Poisons Information Centre, please complete the agreement form. (Note: Please save the agreement form, if needed, on your computer first and then fill it out.)

After completion of an agreement the telephone number of VIZ's emergency helpline +43 1 406 43 43 may be given in your safety data sheets (SDS) and other sources of information relating to your company's products. Your company has thus fulfilled its legal obligation (Art. 25 (4) ChemG BGBl. I Nr. 140/2020).

Please note that in case of inquiries to the VIZ on products for which no safety data sheet has been transmitted to the VIZ, under certain circumstances (1) neither a prompt emergency all-clear can be given for non-hazardous products (2) nor specific first aid measures or medical-therapeutic measures can be recommended for.
