Gunter Maier, Austrian National Public Health Institute (GÖG), provides some insights into the platform, which was founded a year ago.
In order to carry out research into SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19, the Federal Ministry of Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection has commissioned a data platform which provides access to data from the Austrian epidemiological reporting system, data on hospital and ICU admissions due to COVID-19 as well as data on SARS-CoV-2 genome sequencing for academic and scientific institutions. The urgent need for rapid insight and evidence due to the current pandemic situation can act as a catalyst for a faster implementation of a sustainable legal, political and technical infrastructure and framework which is needed to enable a comprehensive secondary use of health and social data.
